Curious. Purposeful. Hands-on. Full of discovery.

OUR SCHOOL

Homestead Montessori Farm School is a licensed, non-denominational Christian Montessori school in Kansas City, Kansas, where strong academics, hands-on experiences, and the natural world come together to cultivate capable, curious, lifelong learners.

A school created for childhood as it was meant to be

Homestead was created around a simple belief: children learn best when they are given the freedom to wonder, meaningful work to do, and an environment that invites them to explore.

Here, learning can happen almost anywhere—from the Montessori classroom and reading room to the art studio, music room, garden, kitchen, farm, and the land surrounding the school. Sometimes, it begins with a question that wasn't part of the lesson plan at all.

Every part of Homestead has been intentionally designed to help children become curious, capable, responsible, and deeply engaged in the world around them.

A whole environment built for learning
More than a classroom

Faith is not an addition to our education. It is part of our foundation.

Homestead Montessori Farm School is proudly rooted in a non-denominational Christian worldview.

We believe that what children learn about the world is connected to how they learn to live within it.

Our faith shapes the way we approach character, responsibility, relationships, gratitude, community, and stewardship. As students study nature, care for animals, grow food, work alongside one another, and learn about the world beyond themselves, they're encouraged to recognize the wonder of God's creation and understand the responsibility we have to care for what has been entrusted to us.

We want children to grow not only in knowledge, but in wisdom, compassion, character, and respect for others.

OUR CHRISTIAN FAITH

We aren't simply preparing children for the next grade. We're preparing them for life.

The Montessori Method recognizes something we see every day at Homestead: children are naturally curious.

When they're given a thoughtfully prepared environment, meaningful work, appropriate independence, and an educator who knows when to guide and when to allow discovery to unfold, learning becomes something children actively participate in.

That's why our days aren't defined solely by lectures, worksheets, or rigid blocks of time. Students read, calculate, write, investigate, ask questions, grow things, create, care for living things, prepare food, explore the outdoors, solve problems, and learn how to work both independently and alongside one another.

Sometimes they get their hands dirty, and often the best learning happens because of it.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Sometimes the best classroom has no walls at all. The land surrounding Homestead gives students room to hike, observe wildlife, study nature, practice outdoor and survival skills, explore freely, and follow questions wherever they lead.

THE LAND

Chickens, bunnies, bees, and other animals make responsibility something children can experience rather than simply talk about. Caring for living things teaches patience, consistency, compassion, and stewardship.

THE FARM + ANIMALS

Our garden is a living classroom where students plant, tend, observe, and harvest while experiencing firsthand how food grows and how closely connected we are to the natural world.

THE GARDEN

A space for rhythm, sound, creativity, and exploration, the music room gives students another way to learn, express themselves, and make connections across subjects.

THE MUSIC ROOM

Our dedicated art studio gives students room to paint, draw, build, experiment with materials, and bring their ideas to life while developing creativity, problem-solving skills, and confidence in their own expression.

THE ART STUDIO

A peaceful place to slow down, our reading room and library give students space to read independently, explore new interests, work quietly, research a topic, or simply experience the kind of uninterrupted reading time that helps create lifelong readers.

THE READING ROOM + LIBRARY

The academic heart of Homestead, our main classroom provides a thoughtfully prepared environment for individualized Montessori lessons, hands-on materials, independent work, and guided instruction designed around each child's developmental needs.

THE MONTESSORI CLASSROOM

Homestead doesn't look like a traditional school because learning here doesn't always look traditional either.

Our home-based environment gives children dedicated spaces to focus, explore, create, move, investigate, and discover.

There is a place for every kind of learning here.

A SCHOOL DESIGNED FOR REAL LEARNING

Laura Sanchez is the kind of educator who can turn almost anything into an opportunity to learn.

Her curiosity is contagious. You might find her down on the ground examining an insect with a student, looking into the trees for a bird's nest, working alongside children in the garden, helping with an art project, or following a brand-new question wherever it happens to lead.

But behind that sense of wonder is more than three decades of experience working with children and young people.

Laura spent years working with children and youth before transitioning from homeschooling her own children into classroom education. She taught multiple subjects at Christ Prep Academy and has worked in Montessori environments since 2007.

In 2016, Laura became an American Montessori Society credentialed Montessori teacher and has also held school-director licensing in both Missouri and Kansas.

Through all of those years, one belief continued to shape the way she taught:

A child's education should be broad, meaningful, and filled with fascination.

That belief eventually became Homestead Montessori Farm School.

Laura brought together the things she valued most about education—Montessori philosophy, strong academics, faith, nature, creativity, practical skills, responsibility, and hands-on discovery—and created a school where all of them could exist together.

For Laura, the best moment in teaching is still the moment when understanding clicks. Because her goal isn't simply to teach children information; it's to help raise capable, compassionate, curious young people who never lose their desire to learn.

MEET OUR FOUNDER

Knowledge matters. So does knowing what to do with it.

We want our students to leave Homestead with more than strong academics.

We want them to know how to think critically, ask thoughtful questions, search for answers, work independently, collaborate with others, care for living things, prepare food, create with their hands, solve problems, contribute to their community, and faithfully care for God's creation.

Most importantly, we want them to approach something unfamiliar with the confidence to think:

I can learn how to do this.
